Philadelphia FAQ

Q: Gegen, LLC Drivers: Do I have to return my plate? When do I have to return my plate?

A: Yes. All plates must be returned by March 1, 2022, unless you receive a separate communication indicating that your lease is ending earlier than March 1. Unfortunately, existing regulations in Philadelphia do not allow commercial vehicles to accept traditional peer-to-peer trips (UberX/Uber Premier). As a result, if you decide to keep commercial plates you will not be eligible for Uber Premier trips.

While Premier doesn’t launch until next year, we plan to run incentives closer to the launch date for drivers who surrender their plates and switch to driving UberX. We will send out communications prior to the launch of these incentives.

Q: Gegen, LLC Drivers: What happens to my insurance?

A: As long as you continue to pay your monthly insurance payment obligations, your commercial vehicle insurance will remain in effect through February 28, 2022. Note: This commercial policy only covers your vehicle when you are operating with a commercial plate. To drive with Uber Premier you will need to obtain personal vehicle insurance, which is likely to be cheaper than your current commercial insurance.

Q: Gegen, LLC Drivers: What happens to my PennDot registration?

A: You can continue to operate your vehicle using commercial registration until February 28, 2022. As Gegen is being shut down, you will need to re-register your vehicle in order to continue operating by the end of February 2022.

Q: Gegen, LLC Drivers: What happens to my PPA sticker?

A: Your PPA sticker is valid through February 2022. You should reach out to PPA with any questions. If you still have not received your sticker, please contact the PPA.

Q: How do I know whether I am eligible for Uber Premier?

A: You are eligible for Uber Premier if you are a driver in good standing with a rating of 4.85 or higher and 250+ completed trips. Your vehicle must be an eligible luxury vehicle with a leather interior and you must have a private plate and private insurance. The vehicle also must be 6 years or newer, which means we will be accepting all vehicles 2016 and newer during our launch in 2022.

Q: What is the price/earnings structure of Uber Premier? How will it differ from the current Uber Black offering?

A: We’re still finalizing the rate structure for Uber Premier, but our intention is to maintain consistent earnings. All Uber Black drivers will be sent the full details so that qualifying drivers can opt in as soon as possible.

Q: Will there be incentives for drivers making the switch?

A: While Uber Premier doesn’t launch until next year, we plan to run incentives closer to the launch date for drivers who surrender their plates and switch to driving UberX. We will send out communications prior to the launch of these incentives.

Q: Will the new premium offering allow me to have a fleet?

A: Our system will no longer allow for a fleet structure - all drivers must be named on their own insurance. Private agreements outside of our system can still be made if they meet all of the PPA’s regulatory requirements.

Q: Will a driver keep their rating when making the switch to the new offering?

A: Yes. Drivers who wish to surrender their plates and drive UberX/Premier will carry over their rating from Uber Black.

Q: Can I keep my commercial plates and continue to drive with Uber?

A: No. Unfortunately, existing regulations in Philadelphia do not allow commercial vehicles to accept traditional UberX trips. As a result, if you decide to keep commercial plates you will not be eligible for Uber Premier trips.
